There is currently one (1) position opening for Accounting Technician II located at Headquarters (Los Angeles, CA).

The Accounting Technician II works in a fast‑paced environment, processing Accounts Payable invoices using imaging and financial systems. The role supports timely and accurate payments by reviewing invoice data, resolving discrepancies, and responding to internal and external inquiries. This position ensures workflow efficiency and helps the department meet critical payment and reporting deadlines.

 

What You’ll Do:

 

Invoice Processing & Quality Control: Process, review, and validate vendor invoices to ensure accurate and timely payments, including taxes, leases, property taxes utilities, and major construction contracts.
Internal Staff and Vendor Support: Responds to inquiries and provides support to internal staff and external vendors by researching, troubleshooting, and resolving issues/inquiries related to the invoice process; ensures communications and appropriate resolutions are in accordance with accounting policies and procedures.
Issue Resolution & Aging Review: Reviews invoice aging reports to validate outstanding items, perform quality control checks, and identify discrepancies; researches and resolves issues by coordinating with external vendors and internal departments to ensure accurate invoice processing.
Year-End Closing Activities: Performs year-end closing activities by reviewing accounts payable aging reports and conducting invoice searches.
Sales & Use Tax Reporting: Evaluates invoices to identify potential gaps in tax compliance; implements and maintains standardized sales and use tax transaction tracking and reporting processes and prepares monthly tax return support and quarterly sales tax returns in accordance with applicable state tax laws.

Schedule: 44/36 Monday through Friday, with every other Friday off. Start times are no earlier than 7 am and end times are no later than 5 pm.

Hybrid: Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education development test (GED) and four years of increasingly responsible, relevant experience;

OR two years in a MWD Accounting Technician I classification;

OR completion of two years full-time accredited college work in accounting or related business field may be substituted for one year of related experience.

Increasingly Responsible and Relevant Experience is defined as: work experience within Accounts Payable, processing invoices for payment, and experience using an ERP system.
