Job Summary
In this role, you will provide critical technical support while undergoing extensive on-the-job training to master the complexities of water operations, planning, and resource management at The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. Drawing on your bachelor’s degree and professional background, you will assist in analyzing data, developing demand forecasts, and developing recommendations for system optimization.
Beyond technical analysis, you will play a key role in data management and water distribution system modeling and analysis, development and implementation of water resources programs, gaining hands-on experience on how Metropolitan strategizes and operates based on hydrologic conditions. You will assist with operational coordination, participate in cross-functional meetings, and support the management of operational changes. This position is designed for a detail-oriented professional ready to apply Metropolitan’s operating principles to real-world challenges, offering the mentorship and project exposure necessary to ensure the reliability and sustainability of Southern California’s water resources.

Schedule: 44/36 Start times are no earlier than 6 am and end times are no later than 6 pm.
Hybrid: Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and two years of relevant experience, of which two years must have been at the Assistant Engineer I level.
Relevant/Related Experience is defined as: a combination of experience in assisting with any of the following: within the water field, water resources, system operations, groundwater basin management; experience with short and long-term planning related to water demand forecasting and facility shutdown coordination; data management and analysis; experience with hydraulic or distribution system modeling.

Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:
License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
