Under the direction of the Executive Legislative Representative and the Assistant General Manager, External Affairs, the Senior Legislative Representative position is responsible for assisting with the implementation of Metropolitan’s state advocacy program by helping secure support from legislators and stakeholders for Metropolitan’s positions on legislative and policy issues of high importance. The Senior Legislative Representative plays an important role in helping inform state legislators and stakeholders about legislative proposals and their effects on Metropolitan programs, facilities, operations, and activities. This classification performs work that requires maintaining confidentiality and is routinely privy to matters that either involves confidential information, sensitive personnel issues, or exposure to confidential and sensitive strategic corporate information.
This position is located in the Sacramento office.
The successful candidate should have knowledge of California's urban, agricultural, and environmental water issues. Additionally, the individual must possess a strong political acumen with a demonstrated ability to achieve desired results and have excellent analytical and communication skills.
Schedule: Monday – Friday. Start time is normally 9:00 AM with occasional overtime as needed.
Hybrid: Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes three days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and six years of relevant experience.
Relevant experience is defined as: Direct experience lobbying or conducting advocacy before state legislative offices on water or environmental policy and budget issues.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
License(s): Valid driver’s license from state of residency equivalent to a California Class C that allows you to drive in the course of your employment.
Desirable Qualification: Registered as a lobbyist with the California Secretary of State.
