This is a District Temp Part Time Student Intern position receiving training and mentoring in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including GIS mapping, data maintenance, analysis, and infrastructure support. Intern will gain practical knowledge and exposure to GIS mapping and data maintenance processes/procedures.

The student intern will learn and assist with updating GIS layers, migrating ArcGIS Portal web maps and GIS web applications from Web App Builder to Experience Builder. You will be working closely with and learning from our Team of GIS analysts.

As a GIS Student Intern, you will be working in the GIS Team at Metropolitan learning and assisting and performing some of the following tasks: 1) GIS data maintenance 2) GIS map production 3) Perform simple GIS analysis 4) Performing GIS Portal infrastructure maintenance 5) Configure GIS applications- Learns and assists with network security- Learns and assists with network design and planning to support Capital projects.

Schedule: (PART TIME) 44/36, Monday through Friday with every other Friday off. (Position Terms on 12/31/2025)

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: Current enrollment in an accredited four-year college or university carrying a minimum of 12 semester units or 8 quarter units with junior or senior standing in a related major and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or current enrollment in an accredited graduate degree program in a related major with a grade point average of 2.75 or higher. 

Related major is defined as: Geography, Environmental Sciences, Information Systems, or similar degrees.

 

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
