The Engineer (Water Reuse) position is an advanced role responsible for leading testing, research, and water quality activities at the Grace F. Napolitano Pure Water Southern California Innovation Center’s Demonstration Plant (Demo Plant) in Carson, CA. The Engineer will apply a high degree of judgement to lead operations and testing at the Demo Plant, supporting the implementation and optimization of a future full-scale Advanced Water Treatment (AWT) facility. This position will report out of Headquarters adjacent to Union Station in Los Angeles but will be stationed in Carson.

In this position, the Engineer (Water Reuse) will serve as a technical lead for evaluations at the Demo Plant to support future design and operation of an AWT Facility that meets potable reuse regulations. The Engineer will identify, recommend, develop, and lead programs and testing including process optimization studies to address recycled water quality and treatment issues; analyze and interpret data; and provide recommendations to develop AWT facility process design criteria to ensure future compliance of treatment and distribution with recycled water and drinking water quality regulations. The Engineer will also lead and oversee the work of a multi-disciplinary team including but not limited to vendors, consultants, and contractors, to support the technical analyses and provide recommendations to support planning, design, construction, reliability, and/or operational optimization for the future AWT facility. The Engineer will participate in standby rotation as required.

As a technical lead, the Engineer (Water Reuse) will support the start-up of new equipment and processes; integration into SCADA for performance monitoring; and development of guidelines, procedures, and manuals for plant operations. The Engineer will also oversee laboratory analytical work, equipment and instrument maintenance, and implementation of quality assurance. The Engineer may also lead, prepare, and review design criteria, plans, specifications, submittals, cost estimates and budgets, as well as develop and administer contracts, and support and participate in external studies and grants pertinent to potable reuse investigations at the Demo Plant.

 

Schedule: 44/36, Monday through Friday/Every other Friday off. Monday through Thursday 9 hours per day, 8 hours per day every other Friday. Monday – Thursday 6:30 am to 4:00 pm, Friday 6:30 am to 3:00 pm.

 

Travel: This position will require travel to various District facilities throughout the service area, sometimes requiring overnight stay in the project area.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:  
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and six years of relevant experience, of which two years must have been at the Associate Engineer level; OR Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and four years of relevant experience, of which two years must have been at the Associate Engineer level.

 

Degree in a related field is defined as: Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Chemical Engineering or other related Engineering degree

 

Relevant Experience is defined as: Working with drinking water, recycled water/water reuse, and/or wastewater treatment processes, OR experience in water/wastewater/recycled water/water reuse regulatory compliance.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:
License(s):
• Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
• License in good standing as a California Professional Engineer (required at time of application).
