The Hydroelectric Specialist I utilizes journey level electrical skills, experience and knowledge in the practices and procedures of installing, commissioning, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting and operating complex power systems equipment for ongoing operations reliability and uninterrupted service. This includes substation equipment, generation equipment, distribution equipment and protection relay equipment. In this position, you will perform maintenance of equipment at the District’s hydroelectric plants, pumping plants, treatments plants, and other facilities. You will install, maintain, test, adjust, troubleshoot, and repair substation equipment which includes transformers, regulators, load tap changers, circuit brakers and switches, motor-operated and manual switches, bus work, wiring battery banks and chargers, and other related equipment and substation structures. You will also perform testing on substation apparatus such as power factor, transformer turns ration, megger, ductor, battery load testing, oil sampling, and other analytical tests; install, commission, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate power system substation protection control, monitoring and metering equipment; and operate substation equipment, including switching and grounding. In performing the job duties of this position, you will follow safety rules and practices to maintain and provide a safe work environment; work at times in confined spaces and in elevated areas such as heights from ladders, structures, scaffolds, buckets, and boom trucks; and occasionally work long hours during shutdowns or emergency conditions. Positions in this classification are distinguished by their responsibility to perform journey-level electrical work while also learning mechanical maintenance work related to power systems equipment. You will work independently or on a small team without greater than normal supervision and will perform progressively higher skilled functions as experience develops through on-the-job and classroom training in progression to a Hydroelectric Specialist II. This position is located at our Gene Camp facility, which makes it eligible for a 5% premium pay on top of the hourly rate.Schedule: 4/10, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday alternating every other week to Tuesday through Friday. This position will require frequent travel to various District facilities throughout the service area, often requiring overnight stay in the project area.This is a Water System Operations position, and is located at the Gene Pumping Plant in Parker Dam, CA.
